Homage to My Mother

Moving image, 2022

Homage to My Mother is a playful reflection on the intersections of motherhood, sexuality, and domestic performance. The work features a hanging piece of fabric printed with the image of a vulva framed in a heart, suspended on a washing line. This simple act of hanging becomes a performance in itself — a tender, humourous thank-you and offering.

The work explores the tension between desire and domesticity, and the hidden eroticism within the home. By situating the intimate and the explicit within a mundane domestic ritual, it reframes the private sphere as a site of performance and power.

Balancing reverence with irreverence, Homage to My Mother invites viewers to consider how sexuality and care, shame and pride, humour and love can all coexist within the fabric of home.
